David Warner’s wife made many revelations in the case of ball tampering controversy

Candice Warner, wife of veteran Australian opener David Warner, has hit out at Cricket Australia for its lack of support following the ball-tampering scandal. Candice said that the board left the players to fend for themselves after the incident and did not provide any help to the stranded players.

Warner, along with Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft, was embroiled in the sandpaper gate controversy five years ago during the four-Test series in South Africa. When Cricket Australia found opener David Warner to be the mastermind of the ball-tampering scandal, they imposed a lifetime leadership ban on him. This meant that now David Warner could never captain Australia.

Speaking on the Matty Jones podcast, David Warner’s wife said that none of the officials of that Cricket Australia came forward to help nor did any offer of help come. They said,

There was no support at that time. In fact David was wiped out from when we left the hotel in South Africa. No official of Cricket Australia was helping him. had nothing. It was some kind of behavior like you handle your problem yourself, we will meet later. Thanks for your services.

Warner, who returned to the national team during the 2019 World Cup in England, last year requested Cricket Australia to lift the leadership ban. However, the left-handed opener withdrew his application due to the tension of the whole process and not wanting to relive the same old incidents.

Apart from this, David Warner’s wife said that Cricket Australia had also asked his family to keep silence on that issue. Talking about it, Candice said,

At that time the situation had become such that someone from Cricket Australia had told me that it is in the best interest of the team to keep its mouth shut on this issue. This made me and David very angry. We have a lot of respect for the team, but we are human too. There was no help for us. It’s sad because I’ve learned to accept it.
