Glenn Maxwell resigns from captaincy of major team

Australian team’s explosive batsman Glenn Maxwell has resigned from the captaincy of Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League (BBL). The Melbourne Stars team led by Maxwell could not qualify for the playoffs. Taking responsibility for the poor performance of the team, Maxwell has resigned from the captaincy.

The Melbourne Stars team led by Glenn Maxwell has not been able to play that well this season of the Big Bash League. The team could win only four out of 10 matches, while they had to face defeat in six matches. Melbourne Stars team finished sixth in the eight-team tournament. For this reason Glenn Maxwell decided to leave the captaincy.

According to the report, Maxwell had informed his fellow players about his decision only after the defeat in the last match against Hobart Hurricanes on Monday. Meter Moors was the new head coach of the team before the start of the season. He could not change the fortunes of the team. This is the fourth consecutive season when the Melbourne Stars team has not reached the finals.

Glenn Maxwell was made the captain of the team in 2018

Glenn Maxwell was appointed captain of the team in place of John Hasting in the year 2018. John Hasting captained the team for one season after the retirement of David Hussey and after him Maxwell was given this responsibility. The team performed well in the first two seasons under the captaincy of Maxwell. The team had reached the finals in the 2018-10 and 2019-20 seasons. However, during this period they had to face defeats from Melbourne Renegades and Sydney Sixers. Melbourne Stars and Hobart Hurricanes are the two BBL teams who have not won the title even once.
