Inter Milan and Benfica will clash in the quarter-finals of the Champions League looking to recover from recent setbacks. Benfica will be hoping the defeat against Porto was a one-off and can stay on course to reach the quarter-finals for the first time since losing the final to rivals AC Milan in 1990.

Benfica is playing in the quarter-finals for the second consecutive season. It was eliminated by eventual runners-up Liverpool the previous year. Inter, in the last eight for the first time in 12 years, had drawn with Juventus in the Italian Cup before a tie with Salernitana. Earlier, they had lost to Fiorentina and Juventus in the Italian league. Its last win was against Lecce in the league on 5 March.
