Scotland and Ireland will play 2024 T20 World Cup, other teams far behind in Europe qualifiers

Hosts Scotland and Ireland have qualified for next year’s T20 World Cup from the regional final of the ICC T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier being played in Edinburgh, Scotland. Scotland beat Denmark by 33 runs to register their fifth consecutive win in five matches and secure their place in the World Cup by reaching the top of the points table. On the other hand, due to the cancellation of the match against Germany, Ireland also got 9 points with 4 wins in 5 matches and they also qualified for the T20 World Cup.

Apart from Scotland and Ireland, teams from Jersey, Italy, Denmark, Germany and Austria took part in this tournament, but no team could compete with both the bigger teams.

The 16th match of the tournament was reduced to 18 overs due to rain, in which Scotland scored 159/7 in the first innings and Denmark’s team could only score 126/7 in reply. Scotland captain Richie Berrington was named player of the match for his 32-ball 60. Apart from him, Michael Leask played a blistering inning of 20 runs in 8 balls. Bradley Curry took the maximum 3 wickets in bowling.

Captain Hamid Shah played a fine innings of 56 runs in batting for Denmark, while Nikolaj Lagsgaard took three wickets in bowling but could not win the team.

The match between Ireland and Germany was abandoned due to rain and a wet outfield, followed by the match between Italy and Austria at the same ground.

Germany will face Italy and Jersey will face off against Denmark on the last day of the tournament on 28 July. Apart from this, Scotland will face Ireland in the last match, which will determine which team will finish first.
