World Cup Qualifier 2023: West Indies won the match against Nepal by a big margin

In the 9th match of the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier, West Indies defeated Nepal by a huge margin of 101 runs. Batting first, the West Indies team scored 339/7 in 50 overs, in reply Nepal team was bowled out for just 238 runs in 49.4 overs. Caribbean captain Shai Hope (132 runs and two catches) was named player of the match.

Batting first after losing the toss, West Indies got off to a bad start. Opener Kyle Meyers returned to the pavilion in the second over after scoring 1 run. Johnson Charles also could not do anything special and became the victim of Gulshan Jha without scoring any runs. In this way West Indies lost their 2 wickets till the score of 9. From here Brendan King added 46 runs for the third wicket with Shai Hope and took the score to 50. King became the victim of Sandeep Lamichhane after scoring 32 runs. Hope was joined by Nicholas Pooran and the two batted in a blistering manner and added 216 runs for the fourth wicket. Pooran scored 115 runs in 94 balls with the help of 10 fours and four sixes, while Hope scored 132 runs in 129 balls. Rovman Powell scored 29 runs in 14 balls. Jason Holder also scored an unbeaten 16 runs. Lalit Rajbanshi took the maximum three wickets for Nepal.

Nepal got off to a bad start in chasing the target. Opener Kushal Bhurtel became the victim of Alzarri Joseph after scoring just 5 runs. Bhim Sharkey scored 2 and Asif Sheikh scored 28 runs. Captain Rohit Paudel’s innings of 30 runs came from the bat. Kushal Malla was dismissed after scoring 2 runs and Nepal got their fifth blow at the score of 92. The series of wickets continued and Arif Sheikh scored the highest innings of 63 runs for the team. Whereas Gulshan Jha scored 42 runs. Karan KC also contributed with 28 runs. None of the batsmen from Nepal could play a big innings and the team could not even come close to the target. Jason Holder took the maximum three wickets from the West Indies.
