IPL 2023: Mumbai Indians reach playoffs with Shubman Gill’s blistering century, RCB out of tournament

The last match of the league stage of IPL 2023 was played between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Titans (RCB vs GT) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. RCB veteran batsman and former captain Virat Kohli scored his second consecutive century in this IPL. For Gujarat, opener Shubhman Gill also scored his second consecutive century in this IPL and has thrown RCB out of the tournament. Shubman Gill’s brilliant inning helped Mumbai Indians to made it to the last four.

The opening batsmen of the host team got off to a blistering start. Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli added 67 runs in 7.1 overs for the first wicket but Faf du Plessis became the victim of Noor Ahmed after scoring 28 runs. Glenn Maxwell played stormy shots as soon as he came but Rashid Khan clean bowled him. Virat Kohli stood at one end and completed his century. Virat Kohli along with Anuj Rawat added 64 runs for the sixth wicket, in which Anuj Rawat scored 23 not out off 15 balls, while Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 101 off 61 balls.

Virat Kohli has become the batsman to score maximum 7 centuries in IPL. He has broken the record of 6 centuries of Chris Gayle. Virat Kohli played an unbeaten inning of 101 runs in 61 balls, which included 13 fours and 1 six.

The target of 198 runs at the Bangalore ground was definitely challenging but not impossible. Gujarat Titans opener Wriddhiman Saha was dismissed for 12, followed by an excellent 123-run partnership between Shubman Gill and Vijay Shankar. Vijay Shankar played an innings of 53 runs but then Gujarat also lost wickets continuously but Gill stood at one end and completed his second consecutive century of this season along with giving the team victory by hitting a six in 19.1 overs. Shubman Gill’s score of 104 not out in 52 balls which included 5 fours and 8 sixes was the star of the match.

Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings, Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians have made it to the last four in IPL 2023. The first qualifier will be played between Gujarat and Chennai, while the eliminator will be played between Mumbai and Lucknow. Both these matches will be held at Chennai ground.
