In the first T20 (SA vs AUS) played in Durban, Australia defeated South Africa by a record margin of 111 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Australia, playing first, made a huge score of 226/6 in 20 overs. In response, the host team was all out after scoring just 115 runs in 15.3 overs.

This is Australia’s biggest win in T20 International against South Africa. Australia’s new captain Mitchell Marsh was chosen Player of the Match for his explosive innings of 92 runs in 49 balls.
Australia, who came to play first after losing the toss, had a bad start. In the very first over, Travis Head was out after scoring only 6 runs. After this, Mitchell Marsh played a brilliant partnership of 63 runs with Matthew Short (11 balls, 20), who was playing the debut match, and increased the team’s run rate. The hosts made a comeback between the fifth and seventh overs and the dismissals of Josh Inglis (1) and Marcus Stoinis (3) apart from Short took the score from 69/1 to 77/3.

Tim David came to support Marsh from here and there was a tremendous partnership of 97 runs for the fifth wicket between the two. During this, Mitchell Marsh completed his half-century in just 22 balls and Tim David in 24 balls. After David was dismissed for 174 in the 16th over, Aaron Hardy, playing a debut match, scored a quick 23 off 14 balls and took the team past 200 along with Marsh. Mitchell Marsh hit 13 fours and 2 sixes in his innings and returned unbeaten. All the bowlers proved to be expensive for South Africa and Lizard Williams took three wickets.
South Africa got off to a poor start in reply to the mammoth target, with Temba Bavuma getting out without scoring in the very first over. Reeza Hendricks put on a quickfire 46 for the second wicket with Rassie van der Dussen (21 off 11 balls), but South Africa could not recover after Dussen was dismissed in the fifth over. Reeza Hendricks scored a 43-ball 56 while Marco Jansen scored a 14-ball 20. Apart from this, all the batting flopped and the entire South African team was all out with 27 balls to spare.

Tanveer Sangha, who made his debut for Australia, took the maximum of 4 wickets for 31 runs, while Marcus Stoinis took three wickets. Apart from this, another debutant bowler Spencer Johnson also took two wickets from Australia.
The Australian team has gone on a tour of South Africa for a series of three T20 and five ODIs. The second match of the SA vs AUS series between the two teams will be played in Durban on 1 September.
