CPL 2023: Windies batsman’s 6 sixes went in vain, Pakistani player’s explosive performance

In the first match played yesterday in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL 2023), Guyana Amazon Warriors defeated Jamaica Tallawahs by 34 runs. Batting first, Guyana posted a mammoth score of 210 runs in the allotted 20 overs, replying which Jamaica’s team was bundled out for 176 runs. While Jamaica has got its first defeat in this tournament, Guyana has won its second match and secured the second position in the points table.

Jamaica Tallawahs won the toss and decided to bowl first, which proved to be correct in the beginning. Guyana had lost the first four wickets for 76 runs in 10 overs but after that Shimron Hetmyer shared a stormy partnership of 99 runs with Keemo Paul. Keemo Paul scored 57 runs in 29 balls with the help of 7 sixes, while Hetmyer scored 60 runs in 45 balls which included 3 fours and 4 sixes. In the end, Romario Shepard played a short but important inning of 19 runs in 9 balls and took the team’s score beyond 200. For Jamaica, Mohammad Amir got maximum 3 wickets while Chris Green got 2 successes.

Chasing a target of 211, Jamaica got off to a disappointing start. Half the team returned to the pavilion on 36 runs. Talavas’ top order succumbed to the deadly bowling of Romerio Sheppard but in the middle order, Imad Wasim added 97 runs with Fabian Allen and came close to the target. Imad Wasim scored 63 runs in 36 balls, including 3 fours and 5 sixes, while Allen scored 47 runs in 25 balls, hitting only 6 sixes. Jamaica’s team was reduced to 176 runs in the 19th over itself and lost the match.
