Pakistan made a big mistake in the win against New Zealand, ICC imposed a big fine

In the World Cup 2023 (ICC Cricket World Cup 2023) on Saturday, Pakistan defeated New Zealand (Pakistan vs New Zealand) by 21 runs using Duckworth-Lewis rule. This victory has kept the Pakistan team’s hopes of reaching the World Cup semi-finals alive. However, despite winning this match, Pakistan team has suffered a big loss and the ICC has imposed a heavy fine on them. Actually, ICC has fined Pakistan 10 percent of the match fee due to slow over rate in the match against New Zealand.

ICC itself has given this information through its Twitter account and website. According to the ICC website, Emirates ICC Elite Panel match referee Richie Richardson found that the Babar Azam-led team had reduced the scheduled time of the match by two overs. Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct: If any team is unable to complete an over in its stipulated time, then the players are fined five percent of the match fee for each over.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam has accepted this fine imposed by ICC. For this reason, there was no need for any formal hearing in the matter. The Pakistan team was accused of slow over rate by on-field umpires Paul Wilson and Richard Kettleborough, third umpire Richard Illingworth and fourth umpire Joel Wilson.

Pakistan team’s bowling has been very bad in this World Cup. Even in the match against New Zealand, the team’s bowlers gave away 401 runs in 50 overs. In such a situation, it took a lot of time for Babar Azam to convince his ineffective bowlers and due to this the Pakistan team had to suffer from slow over rate. This is not the first time in this World Cup that Pakistan team has been fined for slow over rate. Earlier, Pakistan team was also fined in the match against South Africa.
