In the first match played today in the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers 2023, Sri Lanka won against Oman (SL vs OMN). Sri Lanka achieved the target of 99 runs given by Oman in 15 overs without losing a wicket. After this victory, the Sri Lankan team has now come in first place in their group, while this is their first defeat for Oman and they remain in second place. The hero of Sri Lanka’s victory was once again Wanindu Hasaranga, who took 5 wickets for the second time in this tournament.

Earlier, Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bowl first in this SL vs OMN match. Oman team got off to a bad start, losing the first 4 wickets for 20 runs within 10 overs. Kashyap Prajapati returned to the pavilion after scoring 1 run, Aqib Ilyas 6 runs, Zeeshan Maqsood also 1 run and Mohammad Nadeem scored zero runs but for the 5th wicket there was a half-century partnership between Jatinder Singh and Ayan Khan.

Both added 52 runs together Jatinder Singh played an innings of 21 runs but all the batsmen in the middle order succumbed to Wanindu Hasaranga. Hasaranga took 5 wickets for 13 runs. Ayan Khan scored the highest 41 runs for the Oman team and the whole team was all out after scoring just 98 runs.

In search of their second win of the tournament, Sri Lanka needed 99 runs which was easily achieved by the team’s openers. Pathum Nishanka and Dimuth Karunaratne put on 100 runs in 15 overs to win the match and get 2 crucial points. Pathum Nishanka scored 37 runs off 39 balls which included 5 fours while experienced batsman Dimuth Karunaratne at the other end scored an excellent half-century of 61 runs. Karunaratne hit 8 fours in his innings.
