In the 40th match of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 (CWC 2023), England defeated Netherlands by 160 runs in Pune and kept their Champions Trophy qualification hopes alive by reaching seventh place in the points table. England, playing first, made a strong score of 339/9 in 50 overs, in response to which the Netherlands team was all out after scoring only 179 runs in 37.2 overs. For England, Ben Stokes played a brilliant century of 108 runs and was adjudged player of the match.

England won the toss and decided to bat first and David Malan gave the team a fast start. However, Jonny Bairstow (15 off 17 balls) was out on the score of 48 in the seventh over. After this, Malan made a partnership of 85 runs for the second wicket with Joe Root (35 balls, 28) and took the team beyond 100 in the 16th over itself. Joe Root was out in the 21st over on the score of 133 and then Malan was also out in the 22nd over on the score of 139.
David Malan played a quick inning of 87 runs in 74 balls, but he missed the century due to being run out. Netherlands made a strong comeback with the dismissal of Harry Brook (11) at the score of 164 in the 27th over, Jos Buttler (5) at the score of 178 in the 31st over and Moeen Ali (4) at the score of 192 in the 36th over.

However, after this, Ben Stokes made a quick partnership of 129 runs with Chris Woakes for the seventh wicket and took the team beyond 320 in this match of CWC 2023. After crossing the 200 mark in the 37th over, England crossed the score of 250 in the 45th over and 300 in the 47th over. Stokes and Woakes dashed Netherlands’ hopes with their explosive batting. On the score of 321 in the 49th over, Chris Woakes was out after playing a brilliant innings of 51 runs in 45 balls. In the same over, at the score of 327, David Willey was also out after scoring 6 runs.
Ben Stokes completed his fifth and first century of the World Cup in just 78 balls. He played an excellent inning of 108 runs in 84 balls and was out in the last over on the score of 334. England scored 124 runs in the last 10 overs and 69 runs in the last 5 overs. For Netherlands, Bas de Leed took the maximum of three wickets and apart from him, Aryan Dutt and Logan van Beek took 2-2 wickets.

In response to the target, Netherlands had a very slow start and by the time the score was 13 in the sixth over, two wickets had fallen. Wesley Baresi (62 balls, 37) added 55 runs for the third wicket with Seabrand Engelbrecht (49 balls, 33), but Baresi was out on the score of 68 in the 18th over and Engelbrecht was also out on the score of 90 in the 23rd over.
Dutch team completed 100 runs in the 26th over, but in the same over, Bas de Leed (10 off 12 balls) was out. Captain Scott Edwards (42 balls 38) added 59 runs with Teja Ndimanuru (34 balls 41*) for the sixth wicket and took the team beyond 150 in the 32nd over, but the last 5 wickets of Netherlands fell within just 16 runs. And England achieved a tremendous one-sided victory.

For England, Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali took 3 wickets each, David Willey took 2 wickets and Chris Woakes took 1 wicket.
England will face Pakistan in their last match of the CWC 2023 on November 11 in Kolkata, while the Netherlands will end their campaign against India on November 12 in Bangalore.
