Veteran Afghanistan player out of PSL 2024

The time for Afghanistan’s leg spinner Rashid Khan to return to the field has increased and this bowler has also been ruled out of Pakistan Super League 2024 (PSL 2024). The chief executive of the team confirmed the exit of Rashid, who played for Lahore Qalandars in the PSL for the ninth season. The right-arm bowler is recovering from back surgery and that is why he has informed about his unavailability.

Rashid Khan could not play the T20 series against UAE due to the recovery of his surgery. At the same time, he was selected for the three-match T20 series against India but later he was out of it too.

The Afghan spinner made his debut in the Pakistan Super League in the year 2021 and so far he has played 28 matches in this league, in which he has taken 44 wickets in his name at an average of 15.47. His economy rate is 6.13. Rashid Khan had an important contribution in making Lahore Qalandars the champion last year. Rashid took 20 wickets in 11 matches at an average of 14.05 and proved to be the highest wicket taker for his team. In such a situation, his absence will definitely be missed in PSL 2024.

As quoted by Cricket Pakistan, Qalandars Chief Executive Atif Rana issued a statement and said,

It is disappointing that we were deprived of Rashid Khan in PSL 2024. He is a big name and a match winner. No one can completely replace Rashid. An effort will be made to include a good player in the team in place of Rashid.

At the same time, in the pre-match conference held on Tuesday before the third T20 match against India, Afghanistan head coach Jonathan Trott had said about Rashid Khan that there is no time limit for his return and we do not want him to undergo such surgery again.
