WBBL 2023: Match report of two matches played today

Two matches were played in WBBL 2023 on 21 November. In the first match of the day, Adelaide Strikers registered a close win against Sydney Thunder, while in the second match, Sydney Sixers defeated Brisbane Heat to remain in the race for the finals. In the first match, Adelaide Strikers’ Laura Wolvaardt and Sydney Sixers’ captain Ellyse Perry were the players of the match in the second match.

Sydney Thunder vs Adelaide Strikers, Match 48, WBBL 2023

Adelaide Strikers won this match by 3 runs. Batting first, Adelaide Strikers team scored 121/7 in 20 overs. Most of the team’s batsmen were dismissed cheaply but Laura Wolvaardt batted from one end to the end and played an unbeaten inning of 70 runs in 61 balls with the help of eight fours. Danielle Gibson contributed 20 and Megan Shute contributed 16 not out. Marizanne Kapp took the maximum of two wickets for Sydney Thunder.

In response to the target, Sydney Thunder’s innings also looked shaky and the team lost six wickets within 50 runs till its score of five and 67. From here Tahila Wilson (23 balls 33) and Sammy Johnson (14 balls 26*) took the score beyond 100. The team needed 9 runs in the last over but only 5 runs were scored and they had to face defeat.

Brisbane Heat vs Sydney Sixers, Match 49, WBBL 2023

In this match, Sydney Sixers won by 6 wickets with one ball remaining. Batting first, Brisbane Heat scored 176/7 in 20 overs. The top three batsmen of the team could not do anything special but Amelia Kerr (64) and Mignon du Pre (42) handled the innings. In the last over, Charlie Knott played a brilliant inning of 29 runs in 10 balls. Ellyse Perry took maximum three wickets for Sydney Sixers.

Chasing the target, Sydney Sixers won the match by scoring 177/4 in 19.5 overs. For the team, opener Alice Perry scored 20 runs and Suzie Bates scored 26 runs. Whereas, Ashley Gardner contributed 36 runs and Erin Burns contributed 35 runs. Mathilda Carmichael scored 28 not out and Maitlan Brown scored 21 not out to lead their team to victory.
