Pakistan announces team for Asia Cup, captaincy of key player remains intact

Pakistan announced its squad for the Under-19 Asia Cup  2023 to be held in Dubai this month. The junior selection committee led by Sohail Tanvir has selected 15 players for this tournament to be played between 8 to 17 December.

Saad Baig, who captained the Bangladesh tour this year and the home series against Sri Lanka, has again been appointed captain of the team and will also play the role of wicketkeeper. Arafat Minhas will be seen in the role of vice-captain.

Before the announcement of the squad, the probable players of Pakistan Under-19 team gathered for a training camp at Hanif Mohammad High Performance Center in Karachi from 24 November. The 15-member team will now leave for Dubai on 6 December.

Pakistan Under-19 have been placed in Group A along with Afghanistan Under-19, India Under-19 and Nepal Under-19. The team will play its first match in the tournament against Nepal on December 8. Later they will face India and Afghanistan on 10th and 12th December respectively.

Pakistan has not won the individual title even once in the Under-19 Asia Cup history, which began in 1989. The team’s best performance was seen in 2012, when they had to share the trophy against India in the final. After this, Pakistan reached the final twice but did not succeed in winning the trophy. This time it is expected that the team will show excellent performance and end the title drought.
